Yahor Biakau is a director and storyteller specializing in intimate, socially grounded narratives. With a background in directing and several years of professional experience, he has developed a personal style that blends realism with sharp emotional detail. His work often explores themes of identity, personal conflict, and the quiet tension within everyday life.
Yahor’s filmography includes award-winning short films and extensive work in television and documentary production. His film The Concert for Mom received international recognition, winning the Grand Prix at the 9th International Festival of 100-Second Films in Tehran (2013) and the Grand Prix at the National TV Awards Telelevershyna in Minsk (2015). His student film The Last Patron was selected for the Bastau International Student Film Festival in Almaty (2015), while To Catch the Silence premiered at the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad (2016), earning a Special Mention from the international jury.
In television and documentary work, Yahor directed the programs Dva Rublya and Nas ne Obmanesh, as well as the documentary cycles Maysternya, dedicated to Belarusian artists, and New Faces of Kazakhstan, a series of ten films produced in Astana (2017). His promotional cycle My Bogdanovich won the Grand Prix at Telelevershyna (2017), while the promo Learn Russian earned 2nd place at the Mediabrand Awards (Russia, 2019) and entered the shortlist of the TEFI national awards (Russia, 2019). He also directed three seasons of the travel show Selapoletela.
