Panikos Panayiotou

Panayiotis Panayiotou, was born in 1979, to parents Anastasia and Mihalis Panayiotou. Panikos began this whole journey into production with the publication of the book Amathus to Birmingham (2016) inspired by his own parents who are also refugees from the 1974 Turkish invasion. ‘A2B’ as this project is known, documented the stories of families who moved from Cyprus to Birmingham. During this project it became apparent that the female perspective needed more attention and he was inspired to search deeper into the stories of the strong females in the community.
This then inspired him to create his 1st documentary Queens of Amathus, and in his own words ‘due to the sacrifices of the Queens of yesterday, is the reason we live the life we live today’. Panikos is now an established documentary maker currently working on a series of projects which are focused on raising the voice of women who struggle in their life.
On July 2022 his latest documentary ‘The Queens of the Commonwealth’ was premiered in Birmingham, showcasing the stories of 22 migrant women from countries of the Commonwealth and their journey to Birmingham, UK. The event was presented as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games festival.
Panikos is currently working on a 6-part Global Queens series celebrating and reliving migration journeys across the world.
Ο Παναγιώτης Παναγιώτου γεννήθηκε το 1979, από τους γονείς Αναστασία και Μιχάλη Παναγιώτου.
Το 1ο έργο του Πανίκου ήταν η έκδοση του βιβλίου Amathus to Birmingham (2016) εμπνευσμένο από τους δικούς του γονείς που είναι επίσης πρόσφυγες από την τουρκική εισβολή του 1974.Το «A2B» όπως είναι γνωστό στην Αγγλική γλώσσα, κατέγραψε τις ιστορίες οικογενειών που μετακόμισαν από την Κύπρο στο Μπέρμιγχαμ. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτού ο Πανίκος, εντόπισε ότι η γυναικεία προοπτική χρειαζόταν να αναδειχθεί περισσότερο. Έτσι εμπνεύστηκε να ψάξει βαθύτερα και να αναδείξει τις ιστορίες αυτών των δυνατών γυναικών.
Αυτό τον ενέπνευσε να δημιουργήσει το 1ο ντοκιμαντέρ "Queens of Amathus", όπως ο ίδιος αναφέρει «λόγω των θυσιών των βασιλισσών του χθες, είναι ο λόγος που ζούμε τη ζωή που ζούμε σήμερα».
Σήμερα, ο Πανίκος έχει στο ενεργητικό του 2 ντοκιμαντέρ και 1 βιβλίο. Το πιο πρόσφατο είναι οι «The Queens of the Commonwealth».
Τον Ιούλιο του 2022, έγινε η πρεμιέρα του, όπου σε αυτό το έργο αναδεικνύονται οι γυναίκες που μετανάστευσαν από 22 χώρες την Κοινοπολιτείας στο Μπέρμιγχαμ του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Η πρεμιέρα ήταν μέρος των εορτασμών για τους Κοινοπολιτειακούς Αγώνες, που έχουν λάβει χώρα στο Birmingham, τον Αύγουστο του 2022.
Αυτήν την περίοδο είναι αφοσιωμένος στην προετοιμασία της σειράς για τις Παγκόσμιες Βασίλισσες, γιορτάζοντας τα ταξίδια μετανάστευσης απ'ολο τον κόσμο.
