Minos Papas is a Greek Cypriot filmmaker. He is the son of internationally acclaimed film director Michael Papas. Minos has been working professionally in New York’s independent film industry for the past ten years. He earned a BFA in Film at the School of Visual Arts and was awarded the school’s top award for Cinematography (‘the Dusty Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography’) for his thesis film Kalipolis. The short went on to be screened at festivals in New York, L.A., Greece, Germany and Cyprus and was lauded as ‘superbly made’ at the Brighton Final Cut Festival in the UK. Minos’ first independent feature film, Shutterbug (2009), which he wrote, produced and directed, was released theatrically in 2010 in New York and L.A. Shutterbug received reviews from Variety, The Village Voice, The New York Times and many more publications and blogs which merited the film for its ‘Lynchian’ atmosphere and beautiful imagery (www.shutterbugthefilm.com). Minos was invited to the Apple Store, Soho and the National Arts Club of New York to screen and discuss the film. Shutterbug was screened in festivals worldwide and achieved an award of merit at the Indie Fest, Los Angeles. The film is now distributed by R Squared Films. Minos has also worked extensively as director of photography on short and feature films, music videos, documentaries and commercials. He has collaborated with many directors including his father Michael Papas (Secret Paths, Little Odysseus & the Cyclops), independent US filmmaker Ari Taub (79 Parts) and Berlin & Sundance selected filmmaker Sheron Dayoc (The Chicken & the Pink Gorilla), Lisa Skyler (Brillo Box) and Kat Rohrer (Fatal Promises). Minos’ short film The Politics of Conflict (2012) was produced in New York and selected for the NY Shorts Film Festival and the International festival for Peace, Inspiration and Equality in Jakarta, Indonesia. His recent experimental dance film Pulley (2012) has just been selected to be screened at the Dance on Camera festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Minos made A Short Film About Guns to spread awareness on the illegal arms trade. Minos was introduced to the film world at a young age achieving his first international award at the age of 16 with the short film Whispers (1993) – First Prize at the Make-A-Video youth competition in Helsinki, Finland. Minos recently completed his second feature film “Behind the Mirror” and is now working on a short film called “Tango on the Balcony”.

Ο Μίνως Παπάς είναι Ελληνοκύπριος σκηνοθέτης, γιος του διεθνούς φήμης σκηνοθέτη Μιχάλη Παπά. Ο Μίνως εργάζεται επαγγελματικά στην ανεξάρτητη κινηματογραφική βιομηχανία της Νέας Υόρκης για τα τελευταία δώδεκα χρόνια. Πήρε το πτυχίο του (Bachelor of Fine Arts) στην κινηματογραφική σχολή School of Visual Arts και τιμήθηκε με το κορυφαίο βραβείο φωτογραφίας («το βραβείο Dusty για εξαιρετική διάκριση στην κινηματογραφία»), για την ταινία Kalipolis που δημιούρησε για την πτυχιακή του. Η ταινία του προβλήθηκε στο φεστιβάλ της Νέας Υόρκης, του Λος Άντζελες, στην Ελλάδα, στη Γερμανία και στη Κύπρο και επαινέθηκε στο Brighton Final Cut Festival στη Βρετανία. Η πρώτη ανεξάρτητη ταινία του Μίνου είναι η ταινία, “Shutterbug” (2009), την οποία έγραψε, παρήγαγε και σκηνοθέτησε, και το 2010 κυκλοφόρησε στους κινηματογράφους της Νέας Υόρκης και του Λος Άντζελες. Ο Μίνως έχει εργασθεί ως διευθυντής φωτογραφίας σε ταινίες μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους, σε μουσικά βίντεο, ντοκιμαντέρ και διαφημιστικά. Έχει συνεργαστεί με πολλούς σκηνοθέτες συμπεριλαμβανομένου του πατέρα του Μιχάλη Παπά (Secret Paths, Ο Μικρός Οδυσσέας και ο Κύκλωπας). Με τον Μάρτιν Σκορσέσε στην τελευταία του ταινία ντοκιμαντέρ “The New York Review of Books: A 50 Year Argument”, Με τον ανεξάρτητο σκηνοθέτη Ari Taub (79 Parts) και με τον σκηνοθέτη Sheron Dayoc που έχει διακριθεί στο Βερολίνο και στο Sundance (The Chicken & the Pink Gorilla), με την Lisa Skyler (Brillo Box) και την Kat Rohrer (Fatal Promises). Η παραγωγή της ταινίας μικρού μήκους του Μίνου The Politics of Conflict (2012) έγινε στη Νέα Υόρκη και επιλέχθηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου μικρού μήκους της Νέας Υόρκης και το Διεθνές φεστιβάλ Ειρήνης, Έμπνευσης και Ισότητας στην Τζακάρτα της Ινδονησίας. Η πειραματική ταινία χορού, Pulley (2012) επιλέχθηκε για να προβληθεί στο φεστιβάλ, Χορού μπροστά στην κάμερα, στο Ρίο ντε Τζανέιρο, Βραζιλία. Η ταινία A Short Film About Guns που έκανε ο Μίνως, έχει σκοπό να ενημερώσει τον κόσμο για το παράνομο εμπόριο όπλων. Ο Μίνως εκτέθηκε στον κόσμο του κινηματογράφου σε νεαρή ηλικία. Στα δεκάξι του χρόνια έλαβε το πρώτο του διεθνές βραβείο με την ταινία μικρού μήκους Whispers (1993) – Πρώτο βραβείο στο διαγωνισμό νέων Make-A-Video στο Ελσίνκι, Φινλανδία. Ο Μίνως πρόσφατα ολοκλήρωσε τη δεύτερη του ταινία μεγάλου μήκους, “Behind The Mirror” και εργάζεται τώρα στην δημιουργία της μηκρού μήκους ταινίας “Tango on the Balcony”.
