Danae Stylianou was born in Limassol, in 1984. She studied BA(Hons) Film Production at the University of Westminster in London, from where she graduated in 2004. She directed three short films since, while in 2011 she directed and produced
her first documentary feature film, ‘Sharing an island’, about the inter-communal relations of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot youth. ‘Sharing an island’ was screened widely in Cyprus and abroad, winning two awards for its contribution to peace in Cyprus and the world. The director is mainly interested in sociopolitical subjects, which she records through the personal experiences of the people and groups appearing in her films. She worked as assistant director and casting director in Greek
cinema and television, in popular TV dramas, shows, films and TV commercials. ‘A Haircut Story’, is her second documentary feature film.
Η Δανάη Στυλιανού κατάγεται από την Αμμόχωστο και γεννήθηκε στη Λεμεσό το 1984. Σπούδασε Κινηματογραφική Παραγωγή στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Γουέστμινστερ στο Λονδίνο από όπου αποφοίτησε το 2004. Σκηνοθέτησε τρεις μικρού μήκους ταινίες ενώ το πρώτο μεγάλου μήκους ντοκιμαντέρ της, ‘Sharing an island’, με θέμα τις σχέσεις Ελληνοκυπρίων και Τουρκοκυπρίων νέων, προβλήθηκε σε Κύπρο και εξωτερικό, αποσπώντας δύο σημαντικά βραβεία για τη συμβολή του στην ειρήνη στην Κύπρο και τον ευρύτερο κόσμο. Η σκηνοθέτις έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον για κοινωνικοπολιτικά ζητήματα, τα οποία καταγράφει μέσα από μια βιωματική σκοπιά στα ντοκιμαντέρ και τις ταινίες της. Eργάστηκε ως βοηθός σκηνοθέτη και casting director στον ελληνικό κινηματογράφο και τηλεόραση, σε δημοφιλείς και
επιτυχημένες τηλεοπτικές σειρές, ψυχαγωγικές εκπομπές, ταινίες και διαφημίσεις. To ντοκιμαντέρ ‘A Haircut Story’, είναι το δεύτερο μεγάλου μήκους ντοκιμαντέρ της.
