Alexia Roider | Αλεξία Ρόιντερ

Alexia Roider was born in Germany in 1975 and was raised in Cyprus. Having experimented with still photography, she became inspired by the capacity and power of images. ​​In 1993 she attends the Visual Communication Design course at Kassel University in Germany and continues her education in the UK at the University of the Arts London and graduates in 1997 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Film & Video from the College of Communication (Formerly known as the London College of Printing).​
After working on some independent film productions in London she decides to return to Cyprus in 1998 and begins working as a film director for a major film production company, Lumiere Services. In the course of her years at Lumiere, Alexia directs television commercials, corporate videos, documentaries and special events. Her work also includes projects in the field of television graphics, on air-look design, directing seasonal, thematic promos and show openings for Lumiere Television, LTV.
In 2008 Alexia decides to pursue her career as a freelance film director. In the same year she completes her short film “STYX”, for which she has received six major awards in International film festivals. In 2009, Alexia Roider receives the award for Best Director at the 5th Cyprus Short Film and Documentary Festival.​​
In October 2010 she participates in the Official Event celebrating the 50 th Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus by directing the 19-minute visual project, the “Thread of time”: a historical journey of Cyprus using multimedia projections in combination with live dance theatre, poetry and music.​
In 2011 Alexia directs the Awards Ceremony of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation 2009-2011. The event was presented by actors Panayiota Monia and Christodoulos Martas in a one-off performance based on a scenario by Alexia Roider and Andy Bargilly.
In 2011 the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus appoints Alexia Roider creative director for the 1 st International Short Film Festival of Cyprus. The festival is the official short film festival of Cyprus and it is held annually in Limassol every October.

In 2012 Alexia was invited to be on the jury of the International short Film Competition of the Roma Independent Film Festival. In 2013 she is invited to be on the jury of the Clare Valley Film Festival in Australia.
