Cypriot Director and Filmmaker, Alexander Machlouzarides-Shalit was born in New York in 1996 and moved to Cyprus in 2006. He completed a BA (Hons) Degree in Film Studies at Falmouth University, and an MA in Directing at MetFilmSchool London. He is a Freelance Director of Commercials, Music Videos, Short Films etc.
He has won multiple international awards for previous short films. Most notably, "20 Euros”, “The Morning After", "Leonidas and the Fish" and "In the Mood for Food". His work has been featured on MUBI, Omeleto and Shorted. He also represented Cyprus at the Young Lions Cannes competition in Film in 2025, selected as one of the 10 european filmmakers to attend the European Film Academy’s “Sunday in the Country” workshop in 2026. He was then invited to be the newest member of the European Film Academy from Cyprus. As of 2026, he is working on his debut feature film that was awarded a Script Development Grant by the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, with Caretta Films
Ο Κύπριος σκηνοθέτης και κινηματογραφιστής Alexander Machlouzarides-Shalit γεννήθηκε στη Νέα Υόρκη το 1996 και μετακόμισε στην Κύπρο το 2006. Είναι κάτοχος πτυχίου BA (Hons) στις Κινηματογραφικές Σπουδές από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Falmouth και μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου MA στη Σκηνοθεσία από το MetFilm School του Λονδίνου. Εργάζεται ως ανεξάρτητος σκηνοθέτης, αναλαμβάνοντας διαφημιστικά σποτ, μουσικά βίντεο, ταινίες μικρού μήκους και άλλα έργα.
Έχει αποσπάσει πολυάριθμα διεθνή βραβεία για τις προηγούμενες ταινίες μικρού μήκους του. Μεταξύ αυτών ξεχωρίζουν οι ταινίες 20 Euros, The Morning After, Leonidas and the Fish και In the Mood for Food. Έργα του έχουν παρουσιαστεί στις πλατφόρμες MUBI, Omeleto και Shorted. Το 2025 εκπροσώπησε την Κύπρο στον διαγωνισμό Film των Young Lions στις Κάννες. Το 2026 επιλέχθηκε ως ένας από τους δέκα Ευρωπαίους κινηματογραφιστές που συμμετείχαν στο εργαστήριο «Sunday in the Country» της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου. Στη συνέχεια, προσκλήθηκε να γίνει το νεότερο μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου από την Κύπρο.
Το 2026 εργάζεται στην πρώτη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία του, η οποία έλαβε επιχορήγηση ανάπτυξης σεναρίου από το Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού της Κύπρου. Η ταινία αναπτύσσεται σε συνεργασία με την Caretta Films.
