Sholeh Zahraei was born in Iran, grew up in Berlin, and studied Film in Amsterdam before completing a Master’s degree in Visual Arts in Cyprus. She has collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers including Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi, Bahram Beyzaie, and Derviş Zaim. Sholeh is a Berlinale Talents 2016 alumna and a member of the European Film Academy.
Since 2011, she has been working in close collaboration with Cypriot filmmaker Kamil Saldun, with whom she writes, directs, and produces films exploring the social, cultural, and political complexities. In 2016, they were selected for a workshop in Cuba under the mentorship of Abbas Kiarostami, where they produced a short film. Their collaborative work has been recognized at international film festivals. Their film, The Hunt, is the first Cypriot fiction to address homophobia and patriarchy from an intersectional perspective, created in collaboration with Cypriot professionals and LGBTIQ+ organizations across the divide.
In 2018, they were selected by curator Nicolas Vamvouklis to contribute to the Imago Mundi Cyprus Collection, part of the art collection of works commissioned and collected by Luciano Benetton on his travels around the world.
In 2024, their short film Gomşu was selected by curators Dr. Yiannis Toumazis and Demetra Ignatiou for the ongoing Cyprus Insula exhibition at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in Nicosia.
In 2025, Sholeh and Kamil established their film production company, Ocean of Emotions Films, in Cyprus. They are currently developing their feature project Shepherd Scar in its financing phase, while writing their second feature Linobambaki, both centered on Cyprus’ historical complexities.

Η Σολέ Ζαχραέι γεννήθηκε στο Ιράν, μεγάλωσε στο Βερολίνο, σπούδασε Κινηματογράφο στο Άμστερνταμ και ολοκλήρωσε Μεταπτυχιακό στις Εικαστικές Τέχνες στην Κύπρο. Έχει συνεργαστεί με καταξιωμένους σκηνοθέτες όπως ο Αμπάς Κιαροστάμι, ο Τζαφάρ Παναχί, ο Μπαχράμ Μπεϊζαΐ και ο Ντερβίς Ζαΐμ. Η Σολέ είναι απόφοιτη του Berlinale Talents 2016 και μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Κινηματογράφου.
Από το 2011 συνεργάζεται στενά με τον Κύπριο σκηνοθέτη Καμίλ Σαλντούν, με τον οποίο συνυπογράφουν το σενάριο, τη σκηνοθεσία και την παραγωγή ταινιών που διερευνούν τις κοινωνικές, πολιτισμικές και πολιτικές πολυπλοκότητες. Το 2016 επιλέχθηκαν για εργαστήριο στην Κούβα υπό την καθοδήγηση του Αμπάς Κιαροστάμι, όπου παρήγαγαν μια ταινία μικρού μήκους. Το κοινό τους έργο έχει αναγνωριστεί σε διεθνή κινηματογραφικά φεστιβάλ. Η ταινία τους The Hunt αποτελεί την πρώτη κυπριακή ταινία μυθοπλασίας που προσεγγίζει την ομοφοβία και την πατριαρχία από διαθεματική οπτική, και δημιουργήθηκε σε συνεργασία με Κύπριους επαγγελματίες και οργανώσεις ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ και από τις δύο πλευρές της διαίρεσης.
Το 2018, επιλέχθηκαν από τον επιμελητή Νικόλας Βαμβουκλής για να συμμετάσχουν στη Συλλογή Imago Mundi Κύπρου, μέρος της καλλιτεχνικής συλλογής έργων που ανατέθηκαν και συγκεντρώθηκαν από τον Luciano Benetton στα ταξίδια του ανά τον κόσμο.
Το 2024, η ταινία μικρού μήκους τους Gomşu επιλέχθηκε από τους επιμελητές Δρ. Γιάννη Τουμάζη και Δήμητρα Ιγνατίου για τη συνεχιζόμενη έκθεση Cyprus Insula στο Πολιτιστικό Ίδρυμα Τραπέζης Κύπρου στη Λευκωσία.
Το 2025, η Σολέ και ο Καμίλ ίδρυσαν στην Κύπρο την εταιρεία παραγωγής ταινιών Ocean of Emotions Films. Αυτή την περίοδο αναπτύσσουν το μεγάλου μήκους πρότζεκτ τους Shepherd Scar, το οποίο βρίσκεται στο στάδιο χρηματοδότησης, ενώ παράλληλα γράφουν τη δεύτερη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία τους Linobambaki, και οι δύο με επίκεντρο τις ιστορικές πολυπλοκότητες της Κύπρου.
